CONGRATULATIONS EAN QUIRK
Ian Quirk winner of artefacts and coins pictured with Rob Farrar.
Well done Ian!
ARTEFACTS.
1st place. Ean Quirk. Silver Spoon. The bowl is decorated with the scene of a building upon a waterfront. The stem has twisted decoration and terminates with a collared knop. Possibly continental and may date to around the 16th - 17th century.
2nd place. Daniel Crowe. Viking Bronze Artefact. Decorated in the Viking Borre style, it shows two open mouthed beasts about to devour the masked creature in the middle, the body of which is formed by interlacing. Its exact purpose is unknown, remains of iron along the flat edge would suggest a fire steel used for creating sparks, the iron long since corroded leaving the bronze handle.

3rd place. Phil Wozniak. Lead Statue. Cast in the style of a Roman Goddess with fine details. Yet to be confirmed as Roman in date, but intrestingly found close to a second century Roman coin.
COINS.
1st place. Ean Quirk. A gold sovereign of George V in great condition. The better of two gold coins found in the same hole!
2nd place. Paul Cringle. A very nice example of a medieval silver hammered penny. Specifically a voided long cross penny of Henry 111. AD 1247 - 72.
3rd place. Ronnie clucas. An Irish St Patrick's farthing, dating to the 17th century. Avery rare detecting find.
Congratulations to all, lets hope 2008 brings more spectacular finds!
